About
A young, hard-of-hearing man living with his mother in the Kharkiv region, near the Russian border, sets out on a quest to find his place in a war whose sounds can barely reach him. Through the lens of his Nikon camera and his singular perspective, perhaps shaped by his fascination with Samurai philosophy, he documents the destruction sown around him. Viktor, the film and the man, both present the viewer with a stark and stylized monochromatic vision that lends an unexpected depth and richness to the mundane. Blending verité-style observation with cinematic subjectivity, the film offers a rare look at the war, which succeeds in being both intimately personal and monumentally universal.
