About
How many times have you heard a run-of-the-mill person recite conspiracy slogans or repeat some hollow inflammatory drivel, and imagined yourself proving them wrong? Director Robin Kvapil began work on his film with an unusual casting call: “Think the war in Ukraine is a hoax? Come be the hero of a new film.” From dozens of applicants, three Czech citizens were selected—individuals who harbor pro-Putin sentiments and believe that Western media (which they view as far too liberal and “green”) is biased in favor of Ukraine. To crack their ideological armor—and perhaps even realign them with reality—Kvapil takes them on an eye-opening trip to the front lines, where they experience firsthand what it means to live amid destruction and under constant threat. The experiment leads to poignant encounters and deeply unsettling results. In facing them, this fascinating and urgently timely human record of the post-truth era raises a profound question: Do facts still matter?
