About
Googoosh was a mega pop star in 1960s and 70s Iran, a child prodigy who grew up under the spotlight, seamlessly blended English love songs and French chansons with Persian poetry, wore elegant gowns while adhering to the Shah’s courtly etiquette, yet possessed an independent mind and a rebellious streak. All of this came crashing down with the seismic upheaval of the Khomeini revolution, forcing her into hiding. Decades later, when an invitation to tour Iranian expat communities unexpectedly turned into a sensational comeback, Googoosh became a vital voice of courage and solidarity. Alongside spotlighting the intolerable realities faced by Iranian women, this touching and nostalgic film revisits a bygone era: Iran that was and is no more.
