This is a Rome cinema seldom shows—dark, filthy, cruel. Damian arrived there from Poland years ago, dreaming of making music, only to spiral into the precarious existence of a homeless addict, a drunkard, both aggressor and victim. The rough-sleeper community is a kind of family, fickle and unstable like their lives, where moments of laughter and tension-release punctuate the misery, and conversations about everything and nothing reveal dreams that will, in all likelihood, remain unfulfilled.
